Welcoming comments on your choice and reason/s from the following rides ... let's use the following parameters as discussion points:
1. Cost (Purchase Price, Re-sale, Export, etc)
2. Maintenance Cost (Road Tax, Servicing, etc)
3. Power (NA, Turbo, HP, Nm, Zing-ability etc)
4. Ride (Comfort, Handling, Noise, etc)

Must indicate purpose of car. Sole & pri car or 2nd car in the household. Otherwise difficult to vote. Okie my choice for a 2nd car is not in the abv though.
Next car: S3, TTS, .GT-R (if lady luck bless me)...or maybe XC60.
Current: GTI mtm stage 1, forge dv, Cross coilover.

If numbered according to priority as per your suggestion for discussion, very difficult to beat the LGT 2.5

did not enjoy lgt very much.feels like old school turbo with great lag.nothing below 3500rpm n big rush after that.cant deny its value for money n mod potential though.reckon spoilt by the conti feel of big torque at low rpm, therefore gti,r32 n s80 all feel very responsive to throttle inputs.perhaps can add on passat n audi 2.0t fsi to your list.

Not really my 1st choice as my current thinking now is to move away from bobo... however, if just choose within the list, my choice is still boboS60 for the following reason:

The Golf and A3 are the first ones out of my choice as I not quite like hatch back, prefer car with a tail/backside, look sleeker. The S80 is also out as its power is not there and I also dun like driving big boats.

1. Cost (Purchase Price, Re-sale, Export, etc)

In terms of price vs performance vs branding vs comfort, I think S60T5 has the best blending

2. Maintenance Cost (Road Tax, Servicing, etc)

I believe the Japs will give less prob in this dept, but the S60T5 have got its problems sorted out and SM's services are pretty good. so sort of equal scoring here with the Jap edges slightly ahead.

3. Power (NA, Turbo, HP, Nm, Zing-ability etc)

Same same la

4. Ride (Comfort, Handling, Noise, etc)

In terms of handling, LGT or the WRX is definitely a winner here. but given enuf mod on the T5, shld be good enuf for everyday cheonging. but in terms of interior comfort, the Subaru a bit CMI leh.

5. Looks

Definitely S60T5 here, the Subaru had spent so much $ on their engine and turbo and such, they have got no $ left for looks and interior liao.

Conclusion,
Price vs Performance vs Bobo branding vs looks vs interior feel

S60T5 is the winner.

But outside of bobo, there are still 3 series, A4, new C Class, IS250, which my heart is more leaning towards the Lexus or the BMW.

PS. personal opinion, no intension to put anyone in any forms of light... `fu

Perhaps, you hold on for a while and wait for the Mitsubishi Evo X.

If you can't wait, go for the Golf GTI (considering what you are driving now)

Thanks so much TitaniumT4 for the insightful response ... hav been leaning towards bobo S60 as well except to get the suspension to an acceptable level would require some $$$ and work = time + leh cheh.

Am agreeable with u in backside vs hatch ... much better storage and looks. Hav considered A4 but no poke, S4/S3 too ex and S3 is hatch.

Absolutely no visibility on C Class - i dun fancy driving merc unless SL500 range, which of course is out of reach due $$$.

IS250 is crap to drive, GS300 is nice with mega gimmicks and toys but in the end is a NA and is ex for a NA.

BMW 335 is lovely but only coupe and ex, 330 is pretty good compromise but is ex, 325 will not hav the oomph of power as those in the list.

Comments pls ? Thanks

my 2 small micro cents

Legacy gets my vote

1. Cost (Purchase Price, Re-sale, Export, etc)

Cheapest among all prospects nominated
Resale ?? Wat resale ? None of the above hv such thing called resale
Export.... you stand a better chance with GTI .. its quite highly coverted

2. Maintenance Cost (Road Tax, Servicing, etc)

road tax on the 2.5L is a killer... 2L engines are a better bet
Servicing and Maint is typical Jap
Mod parts are still within reasonable budget
IMHO, Euro mod parts are more buck for same or less bang

3. Power (NA, Turbo, HP, Nm, Zing-ability etc)

I think Legacy is 268 bhp ... 6secs+ for century sprint
the slush box is definitely no match for the DSG

At least you dont get comments like "Wah, why you drive yr son's car??"
or Ah Lau, give the car back to your son lah

4. Ride (Comfort, Handling, Noise, etc)

Stock KYB suspension is cushy to the point of being sleepy
Enthusiastic rides require Teins or HKS hipermax
Ohlins can be had for a premium

Driven my fren's GTI on Eibach ... not earth shattering... but enough power and control to kill a WRX w/o causing the baby in the rear to puke on the seats

5. Looks

sedated ... on the borderline of boring
typical Jap executive saloon if you dont stick stupid labels like Ralliart and "The Spirit of Competition"
only give away is the air scoop on the bonnet ... which can easily vanish with the help of a Front Mounted Intercooler

buy the Atlantic blue color ... they are a dime a dozen ... you stealthily blend in and disappear into the ocean of Jap cars on the road
Subaru Legacy ... NA Power!! Eat my shorts!
S60 2.0T workhorse has been put to sleep
S80... you think its Star Cruise Virgo?

Hehe, haven't driven an IS250 yet, so cannot comment, but I like the interior, altho very typical Jap setup.

Tot A4 has that turbo 2.0FSI model which power is equiv to T4, but of coz, not S60T5 la.

on the 3 series, me more compare to current T4, so a 325 would be close enuf, but for T5, at least a 330, but of coz, price/performance is not there, but hor, this one has a tad more on the branding side.

PS. Saw someone test drive the 335Ci Cabrio yesterday on BKT rd, wah lau, the engine note is damn sweet, and I could hear it even I was like 100m behind. they guy was really flooring it, then let go, slow down, then did it again.
S40T4 ... gone.

A4 1.8T modII in da house...

Take it out for a run on rifle range road! ;) loved every minute of it! haha
The engine is a gem. Ooomph on tap from 1500 and pulls seamlessly till the redline. As much as i dislike bimmers, I have to admit, it'll take a lot to beat this engine.

Last I checked it was 238k.
Drives good, sounds good. Very drivable in the city and good for the occasional spirited drive. But there's something about the way it looks that's just not right.....

oldman...by the way why IS250 crap to drive. Handling is definitley much sharper than most Bobo.

dat's a big negative on better handling ... from the test drive anyway ...

it didn't handle anything ... it's neither comfort nor sport ... kinda trying to be in between ...

prob still better than stock bobo ... but compared to the other cars in the list, not close at all ...

My views:

Value 4 $ - STi & LGT (still got left over $$ for a good holiday)
Ommpph - All the HPT cars listed
Class - 60,80, Gti,R32
Yuppie (nt beng) - R32, 60T5
Comfort - 60,80

Hence the following breakdown:
Age-
18-28 (Still gt bengness) - STi, Gti (family rich lor)
26-35 (Yuppie) - Gti, LGT, 60, R32(rich yuppie, or daddy rich)
33-38 (Got some success liow) - 60,Gti, R32, 80(gt kids in tow)
38-45 (towkay) - 80, LGT+GTi (dnt wanna be labelled old)
>45 (Granddad but "young at heart") - 80, STi+Gti (wanna feel young again)

So as u can see the most frequent car to appear above is the GTi. The rest will be based on preference.

No offence to anyone cos read it at yr own risk! :P

A colleague of mine who drives a SC430, and his brother runs an E46 M3 cab that is "suitably" modified test drove the 335i coupe, and was extremely impressed with it. He said, you save a $100k, but you are getting 90% of the E46 M3.

He struck a deal with PML as he was going to be in the US for 12 months, he traded in his SC430, and they apparently agreed to sell as per today's price (before COE goes up, and additional 2% COE), but let him register his car 1 year later
